Idaho Fly FishingIdaho fly fishing

Teton Valley Lodge has a unique grasp on Idaho fly fishing in this region of the Rocky Mountains. As owners and operators of Teton Valley Lodge, Randy, Matt and Brian Berry are involved in every aspect of the fly fishing and guiding. With a combined history of nearly 75 years guiding between them, the Berry’s knowledge of the area is unequaled. Not many outfitters have this quality first-hand understanding from their guides. Having the owners guide five or six days a week all summer long gives Teton Valley Lodge a perspective not commonly found among guide services.

Idaho rivers offer unmatched dry fly fishing.

We are lucky to have three great rivers in our area.  Teton Valley Lodge is centrally located to allow easy access to each of them.  The South Fork, Teton and Henry’s Fork rivers offer over 100 miles of fishable water.  The fishing season begins just before Memorial day and finishes up the middle of October.

South Fork of the Snake River

Arrive the end of June through October and you can be catching fish on the South Fork.  You will mostly be using dry flies and landing cutthroat, brown and rainbow trout.

Teton River

Like the South Fork, the Teton river starts fishing at the end of June.  Both start the season with a large stonefly hatch that drives the big fish crazy.

Henry’s Fork of the Snake River

We open the season with the Henry’s Fork, starting about the 20th of May with a stonefly hatch and of course you can’t forget the green drake hatch that is sure to produce some lunkers.

Over 600 fish in 3 days of fishing.

Idaho Fly Fishing | Henry's ForkLearning is a continual process with fly fishing.

It is this constant learning which adds to the appeal of fly fishing. We understand that you may be a beginner or maybe you have fished your entire life. While our guides are going to push you to do better, they also realize you will need help and instruction. By tailoring their guiding to your skill level, our guides help you succeed.

Randy conducts the interviews and training with the new fly fishing guides.

Success for our customers is directly related to the quality of the guides we employ and train. These are not tour guides. They want you to be successful at a level you never thought possible. This means instructing you all day long, helping you to improve and catch trout, loads and loads of trout. Our guides are not satisfied with an ‘okay’ day. They will work and work to find patterns that will be very successful, not just catching enough trout to keep you interested. These guides want to blow your mind with the reality of great fly fishing. The reality is you can and will catch a ton of trout.

Quite commonly people will comment that “Fishing is not about catching fish, but rather the whole experience”. Fishing is about catching every trout you possibly can. Sure, if you don’t catch a bunch of fish and it was a pleasant day, fine. However that is not what we are out to do. We are out to catch trout.

Fly Fishing IdahoAnother misconception is that whitefish are as good as trout.

Whitefish are not trout. Teton Valley Lodge does not consider them game fish and does not want to catch them. Occasionally you may catch one; however that is not the prize. It is doubtful you would travel to across the country to fly fish in Idaho for whitefish. You come to catch trout and that is what Teton Valley Lodge does best.

The magnificent and beautiful trout has caught our eye, catching them is our passion. Teton Valley Lodge looks forward to fishing with you this next year. We love to fish more than anything else. We want you to love it as much as us.
