Been waiting to get on the river?

The wait is over. Get out on the rivers. With some of the best fishing of the year, now is the time for some fly fishing.

Fishing Report September 10 2011

Fly fishing on the South Fork and Teton rivers has been dynamite the past couple weeks.  Trout are taking small drys like PMDs and hoppers and stonefly patterns.  Banks of all speeds and depths have trout ready to eat.  Yesterday we caught many large trout on the South Fork of the Snake on small dry patterns.  Trout were aggressively taking big hopper patterns in riffles and fast banks.  Stoneflies are still popping out too.  Fishing should be fantastic the rest of the season.  Get out on the river.

South Fork Back to Normal

South Fork back to normal river level

The South Fork is finally back to normal flows.  I gotta say it is somewhat strange to see the river at the 9000 level.  It had been so high for so long.  Fishing has been improving over the past couple weeks and should only get better.

Is the South Fork any good these days with the high water?

Gene at 92

Is the South Fork any good these days with the high water? Ask 92 year old Gene Weisberg. Today Gene and I fished a short day on the river. We were concerned with rain that was threatening our day. At 92 Gene doesn’t want to be caught on the river all day in the rain. So we planned on a 4 hour day. Gene has fished with Teton Valley Lodge for many many years. He has at least 4 trips a season to the lodge. His July trip always involves his sons and grandsons. It is a special trip for him and his family. Gene was in true form today on the South Fork. He had his first fish within minutes of being on the river and he ended up after 4 hours with about 25 trout. Way to go Gene.
