Looking Upstream

What a season – the Henry’s Fork, South Fork and Teton all produced hogs. 2010 will be even
better! As I sit here writing this article, the temperature outside has been a chilling -27° below. There is snow on the ground and we haven’t been fishing for 6 days due to the low temperatures. Palisades Reservoir on the South Fork is 70% full. Island Park Reservoir on the Henry’s Fork is almost completely full making the water forecast looking very good for this next fishing season.

The dry fly fishing last season was excellent all season long. Because the reservoirs will be full by mid winter, good river levels for next season are assured. We expect to have normal water flows in May and June which will allow all those Giant Salmon Flies to come out on time. Plan on the 25th of May for the big bugs on the Henrys Fork and the 3rd week of June on the South Fork. Run-off will be negligent on both rivers.

With all the huge fish we landed last season, and those we missed, we are extremely confident that we will see as many or more monsters in 2010. All conditions are GO. The new patterns we have developed the last two seasons are bringing up larger fish on dry flies than anyone has ever seen. If you really want to get excited, read the article on Ed Isbey and Brian Berrys’ 9.5 pound dry fly rainbow from the South Fork last July.

Even though we have the giant salmon flies hatching for 60 straight days, reservations can be difficult to get if you wait too long. After you read this paper and your blood is racing and you have images of giant browns and rainbows running through your days and nights, pick up your phone and give us a call. Don’t miss out on the monsters on dry flies in 2010.
