Upper Teton River

The Upper Teton was in true form in 2009. With the South Fork high later than usual we relied on the Teton River for our late June fishing. It was out of sight! We had tremendous hatches of PMD’s day after day through late July. It was difficult to leave the lodge to fish the other rivers when you knew how good the fishing was right out the front door. The greatest attribute of the Teton River is the opportunity to fish dry flies to rising fish. Thanks to the great water we have been receiving these past years and restoration work on many of our tributaries, the river is in great shape. Blaine and Nancy Huntsman are to be commended for their outstanding efforts on Fox Creek, the most significant tributary on the upper Teton River.

This report from the Fish and Game on their electrofishing last year is very encouraging. In 2009, all trout species increased in abundance on the Teton River with statistically significant increases observed for Yellowstone cutthroat trout and rainbow trout over 2007 estimates. Yellowstone cutthroat trout are showing a welcome increase in abundance and are currently at their highest abundance since the mid-1990’s. Further, densities of all trout combined are at their highest level recorded since sampling first began in 1987.

We look forward to the future of the Teton River and hope to share its beauty and outstanding fishing with you in 2010.

Teton River NarrowsNarrows of the Teton River

Teton Valley Lodge is blessed to fish some of the most prolific waters of all the world. The excellent fishing of the Henry’s Fork and South Fork are well documented. These two rivers are spoken of in hushed tones in fly fishing circles, but guests of Teton Valley Lodge know that there is a jewel found in between these two streams that offers dry fly fishing that is second to none.

For over 40 years these floats have been favorites of our guests. With many days of fish counts over 100, all on dry, there is little doubt why the Narrows of the Teton is so sought after. Why not let a Teton Valley Lodge guide show you these breathtaking views and big fish? We promise you will never forget your trip to the Narrows of the Teton.
