John Pehrson

The Living Legend

John began fly fishing at age 9 and began guiding fly fishing float trips at Alma’s lodge in Driggs, Idaho in 1961. He guided for Alma Kunz through 1966. He went into partnership in the fly fishing float trip business out of Driggs, Idaho with his partner, Randy Berry, in 1970. They purchased Teton River Lodge, previously Alma’s Lodge, in 1973, renamed it Teton Valley Lodge, and owned it together until 2003. Under the ownership of John and Randy, the lodge continued the legacy and tradition of Alma Kunz and became the finest fly fishing float trip full service lodge in North America.

At this writing, John is involved in his real estate companies, and works as a part time guide for Teton Valley Lodge during the summer months. He also spends a considerable amount of time tying flies and fly fishing allof the rivers in the Teton Valley Idaho area and surrounding states. Most evenings in the summer you will find him on his beloved Upper Teton River landing and releasing huge Rainbows and Native Cutthroat. 2021 will be John’s 55th year of guiding fly fishing float trips in Southeastern, Idaho. He most recently completed writing a book featuring the history of Alma’s lodge/Teton Valley Lodge. The title of the book is “A Fly Fishing Tale, The Legacy of Alma’s Lodge”.
