Ok, you have all heard of tumbleweeds. A staple of any western movie worth its salt from the beginning of time. In fact, I may have to watch some Clint Eastwood or John Wayne today.
I am willing to bet you have not seen or let alone heard of snow rollers. Think Little Debbie’s Swiss Rolls snack. Now picture them super-sized, scattered to and fro across the landscape.
Think the Grinch or any number of Saturday morning cartoons where someone starts a snowball rolling down a hill getting bigger, on its way to mayhem.
The snow roller has an unseen hand directing its construction. While I doubt they can be used as a weapon of mass destruction, they are a sight to behold.
These are created when temperatures are near freezing and a steady wind blows. A slope helps the process. So rare, I don’t think I have ever seen the snow roller in my lifetime of living in our winter icebox, until yesterday.
Have you ever seen these before?
